Pistol Annies

Pistol Annies is an American country music supergroup composed of Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley. The trio was formed on April 4, 2011 during the Academy of Country Music's broadcast of a "Girls' Night Out" special.
The band released its debut album, Hell on Heels, on August 23, 2011 via Columbia Records. Its title track has also been released as both a single and a music video which began airing on Great American Country in July.

O.A.R.

O.A.R. (short for Of a Revolution) is an American rock band composed of Marc Roberge (vocals, guitar), Chris Culos (drums, percussion), Richard On (guitar, backing vocals), Benj Gershman (bass guitar), and Jerry DePizzo (saxophone, guitar, percussion, backing vocals). Due to massive online distribution over campus networks, the band has become a hit among college students, with many songs relating to the band members' personal lives at Thomas S. Wootton High School, growing up in Rockville, Maryland and attending The Ohio State University.

SuperHeavy

SuperHeavy is a rock supergroup consisting of Mick Jagger, Joss Stone, Dave Stewart, Damian Marley, and A. R. Rahman. Stone and Stewart had collaborated in the past with Jagger. The band's formation was announced on 20 May 2011. Jagger said of the band, "We wanted a convergence of different musical styles... We were always overlapping styles, but they were nevertheless separate". Jagger wanted SuperHeavy to showcase different musical styles, with music ranging from reggae to ballads to Indian genre. Blackie & The Rodeo Kings

Blackie and the Rodeo Kings—Colin Linden, Stephen Fearing and Tom Wilson—will celebrate the June 14 release of their long-awaited collaborative album, Kings And Queens, with a performance at The Living Room (154 Ludlow Street) in New York City. Three years in the making for the acclaimed Canadian supergroup, Kings & Queens pairs the band with legendary and iconic female artists including Rosanne Cash, Exene Cervenka, Holy Cole, Emmylou Harris, Amy Helm, Janiva Magness, Mary Margaret O’Hara, Sam Phillips, Serena Ryder, Pam Tillis, Sara Watkins, Lucinda Williams, Cassandra Wilson and Patti Scialfa.
The concept for Kings And Queens was a random idea that came out of a late-night conversation in a van about “various artists we’ve all had the privilege of working with,” says Colin Linden.

England Keep My Bones

England Keep My Bones is the fourth studio album by London-based singer-songwriter Frank Turner, released on June 6, 2011, on Xtra Mile in the United Kingdom, and on June 7, 2011, on Epitaph Records worldwide. The album was produced and mixed by Tristan Ivemy, who had previously mixed Love, Ire and Song, Rock & Roll and Campfire Punkrock.
The album's title is taken from William Shakespeare's play, The Life and Death of King John, with Turner noting, "I knew that the album was, for the most part, about mortality, and about Englishness. Shakespeare seemed like a good place to go hunting for some pearls of wisdom, and with a little help from my friend Ben we came across this one, and it just seemed to fit the work really well."

Widespread Panic

"Since their inception in Athens, Georgia in 1986, Widespread Panic has risen to elite status among American jam bands. Following in the steps of other southern rock jam bands such as The Allman Brothers, they have influences from the southern rock, blues-rock, progressive rock, funk and hard rock genres. They are frequently compared to other jam band "road warriors" such as the Grateful Dead and Phish. Widely renowned for their live performances, as of 2008, they hold the record for number of sold out performances at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO at 32 and Philips Arena in Atlanta, GA at 17."

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals is the moniker of a Vermont-based band that gained national attention in 2007 with its first album,This Is Somewhere. Their newest studio album, the eponymous Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, will be released today, June 8th. The band blends funky blues, soul, rock & reggae from the psychedelic sixties and early seventies. They were a natural choice to do a redux of Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit for Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland.
The lead vocalist is twenty six year-old multi-instrumentalist Grace Potter who attended St. Lawrence University for two years before heading off into the world of music. She plays the Hammond B3, Fender Rhodes and Wurlitzer Electric Piano, and electric and acoustic guitars.Give this great cd a listen!

The Big To-Do

"Drive-By Truckers are an alternative country band based in Athens, Georgia, though three out of six members are originally from The Shoals region of Northern Alabama. Their music is noteworthy for its "three axe attack," or three guitars as well as bass and drums. Like most alternative country acts, the Drive-By Truckers record in analog, resulting in a lower-fi but more 1970's rock'n'roll sound. However, unlike the majority of their contemporaries, the Drive-By Truckers have consistently pushed their labels to also release the band's records in a vinyl format."

Emotion & Commotion

I must say that the long wait for a new studio recording from the brilliant Jeff Beck was certainly worth it. What an experience to hear the Fender bendin' Stratocaster version of Puccini's gem Nessun Dorma, and if it does not bring a tear to your eyes or at least some semblance of a sentimental buzz, you may be dead. Also, hearing Joss Stone sing the daylights out of the Screaming Jay Hawkins' classic I Put A Spell On You is worth the price of admission.We even get to hear Jeff play the wonderful wizard's Somewhere Over The Rainbow in his own inimitable style.There's a wah-wah infected real gritty rocker/jazzer called Hammerhead that should suitably curl your toes! Give it a listen and you won't be disappointed. I'm enjoying it more than the Ronnie Scott's live cd!

More than one hundred of the best-loved kids TV characters over three generations have been brought together for the Animated All Star Band by funnyman Peter Kay in aid of Children In Need.
The hordes of toys, animated characters and puppets are the stars of a groundbreaking Band Aid-style single and pop video - aired for the first time on BBC1's charity extravaganza last week.
Millions watched in amazement as kiddies' favourites, including Paddington Bear, the Thunderbirds, the Wombles and Bob The Builder joined forces.
In the video, the characters sing and perform dance routines to a medley of songs including Pussycat Dolls' Jai Ho, Take That's Never Forget and The Beatles' Hey Jude.
The ambitious animation project took two years to complete as toys, puppets and models were tracked down and shipped in from all over the world. Where's Noddy and Barney or a Smurf?

Pumpkins Anniversary

"Fourteen years ago this week: the Smashing Pumpkins released their third album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, on Virgin Records. For the first and only time in the band’s career, the epic multi-disc album debuted at number one on the Billboard Charts. The album earned the band seven Grammy Award nominations, and won best hard rock performance for “Bullet with Butterfly Wings”. Mellon Collie was intended to be a concept album symbolizing the cycle of life and death.

As a whole, the album expanded the band’s repertoire by incorporating diverse musical styles, giving the band multiple dimensions. Upon its release, head Pumpkin Billy Corgan described the album as an interpretation of “the human condition of mortal sorrow”...."

Put A Bullet In The Radio!

"With her third record, Miranda Lambert remains country's most refreshing act, and not just because she makes firearms seem like a matter-of-fact female accessory. The playlist is her most varied yet: "Airstream Song" is a string-band dropout fantasy that includes a nod to fellow "red-dirt girl" Emmylou Harris, while a redneck-surrealist cover of John Prine's "That's the Way That the World Goes 'Round" rocks enough to get the girl booked at Lollapalooza. Lambert's Second Amendment talk goes beyond posturing: "Time to Get a Gun" (by Fred Eaglesmith) is more about working-class powerlessness than being trigger-happy. And on "Maintain the Pain," she shoots her car radio. Hey, Nashville: What d'ya think she's sayin' there?"

New Tom Waits cd

"Tom Waits will release a live album of material taken from his 2008 Glitter and Doom tour.
"Yeah, it's coming out at Thanksgiving," Waits revealed to CBC Radio. "A lot of applause, followed by a song, and after the song there's more applause, and then there's a song. And it goes like that all the way through."
The album will join Nighthawks At The Diner and Big Time in the Tom Waits live recordings catalogue.
Glitter and Doom Live is set for release on November 24."
